Earlier this year I received an invitation in my inbox to participate in a new project from The New York Times, which went live this week: the 100 Best Books of the 21st Century. The NYT decided to “mark the first 25 years of this century with an ambitious project: to take a first swing at determining the most important, influential books of the era.” They determined this list of 100 books by sending out a survey to 503 bookish people, or literary luminaries, as they call them in the article.
