#NuevasPaginas is a space that aims to amplify and spotlight Hispanic/Latine/x authors with newly published books. The goal is to connect readers to their next favorite Hispanic/Latine/x authored book through a mini casual get-to-know-the-book-and-author interview. So give please spread the news so we can reach more readers and continue the love/support of Latine literature!
How does it work?!
Here’s the deal, I came up with a set of casual/random/fun questions to ask each Hispanic/Latinx/e author, I interview. If you are new here don’t forget to check out all the other amazing interviews! We also have a great line-up of guest authors coming up so make sure you don’t miss an issue by subscribing now!

Hey Heyyy Book Franz!
I am back from my Bookchella (!!!) AKA the San Antonio Book Festival, and I have been completely rejuvenated after spending time with the best people on the planet - BOOK PEOPLE. I have a whole breakdown of my weekend along with photos to share here planned but first, we have a busy week ahead of us! This week, I am sliding into your inbox TWICE. You heard that correctly, two new Latine authors, two very different books- all in one week. I know we normally do one interview a week, but there are so many Latine books coming out this year, that in order to fit in as many Latine authors and their books, we’ll be doubling up some weeks.
FREE BOOK GIVEAWAY - So to celebrate this week’s first author, their publisher has kindly partnered with me to host a giveaway for two copies of their book! Here is what you need to do to enter (it’s very easy): Comment below that you are interested in a copy of today’s featured book/author and you’ll receive a bonus entry if you share today’s issue with a friend and or on social media somewhere. Once you’ve shared it somewhere - comment again below and let me know, so you can be entered to win twice. I’ll announce the winners in next week’s issue! One minor entry requirement is that you must be U.S. based to enter. This is due to the publisher.
What is Lupita reading this week?
I AM READING ALL THE THINGS! I AM A MESS! HAHA
On audio, I started listening to A Song For You: My Life with Whitney Houston by Robyn Crawford. This was totally inspired by the fact that I sobbed on the airplane ride home from San Antonio while watching the movie -Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody. I have always been a Whitney Houston fan and I bought Crawford’s book when it first came out years ago but I never felt ready for it. I am ready now and I can’t wait to share more thoughts once I get further into it.
On paper, I am 20 pages from finishing The People Who Report More Stress by Alejandro Varela, I started the first few pages of The Consequences by Manuel Muñoz and I am also reading The Skin And It’s Girl by Sarah Cypher because I have the honor of chatting with her next week (April 25 at 7 PM- register here to join us) for her book launch at East City Bookshop in Washington D.C. - please join us if you can, this is open and free for anyone to attend.
On my ereader, I am still working my way through Rivermouth: A Chronicle of Language, Faith and Migration by Alejandra Oliva but I have to place it on hold, for now, to make my way through at least two of the fiction reads I started - that makes me sad because I want to tear through this book!
Without further ado, our very special guest author for today’s Nuevas Pagina issue is……Linda Garcia author of Wealth Warrior: 8 Steps for Communities of Color to Conquer the Stock Market!

Could you tell me a bit about where this photo was taken? Is it special to your book in some way?
This photo was taken in my backyard by my daughter. My backyard is my sanctuary. A place where I go to ground, release stress, and find inspiration. I see all the parallels in gardening and investing, so much investing inspiration came from my garden during the writing process.
Tell me about your book without telling me about your book - share any literary inspirations behind your book! If there are none, the gap you wanted to fill in the literary canon with your book.
Ultimately, this book was inspired by Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist not directly per say, but when I first read this book 16 years ago, it inspired me to find my personal treasure in a foreign land which for me equates to my voice on Wall Street. The Alchemist also helped me understand how a body of work can truly shift the direction of lives. From that moment forward anything I create is deeply rooted with the intention to move us closer towards ourselves. Writing a book on the stock market and how to become a direct shareholder/owner was a very scary space for me to take up but extremely necessary as a community resource. Only .5% of Latine communities are direct shareholders and it makes sense, the resources that communicate this complex system in a simple way from voices like ours are not available.
What are two central themes in your book that you connect with the most and why?
I firmly believe that no matter how much financial literacy we consume, if we don't fully understand our money mindset, then it will be very challenging to grow financially wealthy. It is part of the reason we only make 55 cents earned by white men. While we can't deny the system that is not set up to help us succeed, we must also acknowledge what we are willing to accept. Wealth Warrior takes on the subject of money mindset as step one and you see it surface pretty much through ever chapter because for many of us, when dealing with money, our default is scarcity. What we don't understand is that when all we do is trade our time for money, then of course we are going to see money as scarce. It's because time is scarce. Money is a tool that has the power to multiply itself when we put money to work and stop focusing on solely exchanging our time for money.
Growing up, I watched my mother clean houses, babysit, sell tacos, and work the night shift at a fabrica. She did all of these jobs at the same time and we still didn't have enough, not to mention, I hardly saw her. This is very common in our households and we take on the mentality of working hard and many times sacrificing what makes us happy for money. My intention with explaining investing and helping our community identify their personal relationship with money is so that we can have more freedom to do what we are called to do from within, not for money.
If a book was home, where would your home be?
My home would be throughout the entire spine of the book, in the depths of what holds the book together, giving me abundant access to all of the pages, the words on the pages, and the emotions in the words.
If your book was a famous musician who would it be?
Ironically I have many musicians quoted in the book and although who I am going to say it would be, is not quoted, I feel the energy is the same. NWA because it is on the scene of not caring about who has dominated before, unapologetic, and ready to usher in a new, fearless, culture. We are coming for direct ownership in stocks.
What comfort food could a reader pair with your book?
Does an ice-cold beer count as a comfort food? If so, a Victoria cerveza is the move.
In what ways has access (or little to no access) to Hispanic/Latinx/e literature defined you as a writer?
No access to the stock market has defined me as a writer, as a creator, and as a visionary. This is about getting this information out by way of any media to as many hands as possible.

Synopsis for Wealth Warrior: 8 Steps for Communities of Color to Conquer the Stock Market from the Bookshop website:
This much-needed conversational guide to the stock market by a financial expert empowers you to heal money wounds, establish financial literacy, and make your money work for you.
Financial educator Linda García breaks down one of the most elusive yet effective financial systems in existence. A single mother at a young age, Linda struggled to survive. As bills and eviction notices flowed in, she felt stuck. After getting advice from a work friend, Linda took the leap and invested two hundred dollars. Soon, two hundred dollars a month grew to seven thousand dollars, then that became a high six-figure investment. Now she owns her home and is making more money than she'd ever imagined, and is ready to help other people of color access stock knowledge and achieve financial success.
As a proud Latina, García understands that building wealth can mean more than stepping into financial arenas historically kept from communities of color. It may first require getting to the root of our money wounds--the factors and experiences that limit our capacity to feel deserving of wealth and capable of building it. In this investing playbook, she guides you on how to establish a budget, create your "opportunity fund," and pay yourself first. She shows you how to analyze a company, choose the right stocks for you, and create a plan to multiply your money.
You'll learn:
What it means to invest, where your money goes, and how to read stock charts.
How to assess companies, pick your first stock, and buy your first shares.
Tactics to break free from a scarcity mindset and grow your stocks to create life-changing wealth.
Complete with an accessible glossary of stock market terms, Wealth Warrior is a true primer on how to generate the wealth you deserve!
What a wonderful concept for a book! Too often marginalized communities are kept out of finance/investing talk. I'd love to win a copy and give it away after I read it.
I'd love to read and share with my friend who is also interested in learning how to build generational wealth :)
